Timor-Leste Hearts Fund, with support from the World Heart Federation, led a National Cardiac Symposium to celebrate World Heart Day in Dili, Timor-Leste.
The event brought together government leaders, local health professionals, international experts and community representatives to prioritise heart health in Timor-Leste. As Timor-Leste’s first official celebration of World Heart Day, this event marked an important and significant milestone for heart health.
In Timor-Leste, where rates of cardiovascular disease are rising and national mortality trends are showing a concerning upward shift, addressing this disease burden and raising awareness of risk factors is an increasingly urgent public health priority.
Timor-Leste Hearts Fund has been operating in Timor-Leste since 2010 to screen and support patients experiencing heart disease. The organisation is also working closely with the Timor-Leste Ministry of Health to support systems strengthening and cardiac workforce development.
