Prevention is better than cure

Our penicillin program helps young people with rheumatic heart disease to stay healthy

Education and awareness

From Timor-Leste’s only cardiologist to village health workers, we are supporting skills to improve heart health

Research and advocacy

Timor-Leste has one of the highest rates of rheumatic heart disease in the world

We believe that good health should be a universal right.

And we’re working hard to make that happen. Untreated heart disease is one of the biggest health challenges in Timor-Leste.  As well as immediate help for the most critical cases, we are tackling the root causes of poor health in Timor-Leste with research and advocacy and education and prevention projects.

Every donation helps us to mend broken hearts and tackle the root causes of poor heart health in Timor-Leste

Too many young Timorese, especially young women and girls, suffer from heart disease. I want to use my profile as a sportswoman to tell people about avoiding rheumatic heart disease, and how organisations like Timor-Leste Hearts Fund can help.

Personally – and I hope for all Australians – the continued progress of the fledgling nation of Timor-Leste is a proud legacy. I encourage anyone who shares my admiration for our neighbours in Timor-Leste to tangibly demonstrate this however they can, including by supporting the vital work of Timor-Leste Hearts Fund.

It’s easy to take health and medical services for granted when you’ve been born in one of the luckiest countries on the planet. But not everyone is so lucky. I’ve seen how life-changing heart surgery can be for our patients. I’m proud to be an ambassador for Timor-Leste Hearts Fund.
