Our hearts are filled with joy for thirty-year-old Noemia from Timor-Leste who recently received a life-saving heart procedure in Australia. Noemia had been living with a condition that blocked blood from flowing normally through her heart, lungs and body. Unfortunately, there is no cardiac surgery available in Timor-Leste. Without surgery, Noemia would have had to endure a life of debilitating disability and early death.
Thanks to our incredible donors and volunteers Noemia had open heart surgery at Prince Of Wales Private Hospital in Sydney. She is now back home with her family and recovering well.
Our gratitude and thanks to cardiologists Simon Eggleton and Virag Kushwaha at Eastern Heart Clinic, the Prince of Wales Private Hospital, cardiac surgeon Zakir Akhunji, anaesthetist Darren Wolfers, intensivist Zarir Nanavati, and cardiologists at Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares – HNGV, who all generously volunteered their time and expertise.
